Here's the first few bits...
I've actually skipped posting the opening, mainly cos I don't like a line or
two of it...
I'll fix it eventually!

Ye Star Beafte

by

Covenant Fakespeare

based on a script
by
Walter Hill
and
David Giler

based on screenplay
by
Dan O'Bannon

.....

LAMBERT
By the Lord, this chill is beyond the limit of Human
endurance!

PARKER
Brett, doth thou inhabit the land of the living?

BRETT
Verily.

RIPLEY
Indeed, we are fortunate.

They yawn, stretch, shiver.
Dallas looks over at a flashing yellow light.

KANE
My flesh is of the opinion that the hand of death hath
claimed me.

Yawns.

PARKER
In sooth, thine palour proclaims thy speech.

ASH
Indeed, t'is joyous that our return is nigh upon us.

PARKER
Harken to me, my comrades and compatriots!

It is in my heart that, (before the time is upon us from
whence we shall depart this fine vessel), t'would be
prudent that certain matters regarding our employ and
remuneration thereof should become the subject of much discussion.

BRETT
In sooth, tis true!

PARKER
Further, forsooth, it is in our minds that the booty we shall
be given upon completion of our mighty tasks within this
vessel should be increased forthwith.

DALLAS
It matters not what thou pair of jackanapes doth take
into thine empty heads, the monies thou shalt make will
be as of the amount agreed not a few months hence, as did
we all.

BRETT
But, is not sooth that thou, and all, shalt, in completion
of thine tasks receive many times the monies of which shall
we?

DALLAS
And is't not also sooth that I, and all, are more deserving
of said monies?

ASH
Mother is in desirance of thine company.

DALLAS

Indeed, I was aware.

A light of yellow shineth out.
Which in it's mute insistence shows
that all which passes t'ween us both
is for mine eyes, set quite apart,
of lesser mortals such as those.

That's the plan!

Ripley
"Forever and anon when words do fall from your mouth, as certain as night
shall follow day, doth Brett intone, "Verily!" He taketh the aspect of some
bird, making one dwell on the Myna, which hath, by constant repetition,
enabled itself to repeat ad nauseum words that whilst having the appearance

Parker
"T'is sooth. Thou must alter thine ways Brett! What art thou? Some form of

Only, in the case of the junior college, the pot won't be a prop, it'd be
very much like the old Coca-Cola slogan, "the real thing".

(Or whatever the equivalent Shakespearean turn of phrase for *that* would
be.)

Needn't be a problem, a lot of Shakespeare's lowlife characters spoke
in prose, and these are space truckers, so that fits. I would think
Ash would speak in blank verse though.

[forewarning: I am going from memory of studying Shakespeare back in
school, twenty (EEK!) years ago. My memory could be rusty or downright
incorrect]

That was usually an isolated and pointed construct within the play though,
that as a whole was in iambic pentameter. There'd be *one scene* in which
people such as porters or gardeners or some similar "ordinary people" would
have their dialogue - between each other - "out of meter" to provide a
meaningful contrast. When the same characters talk have lines with the
leads, outwith the context of that scene, they are back in meter again.

It's not that all peasants / lower class people always spoke out of meter.

But still... I wasn't suggesting it was a *problem*, anyhow.

Not always. You're probably thinking of Macbeth. If you look at Henry IV,
Falstaff and co talk prose throughout. I would guess that the officers would
speak in blank verse at least while Brett and Parker do prose.

Crikey. Could be. It's the only one I studied twice at school so probably
sticks in my mind, but it cropped a in other plays. To be honest, I'd've
not noticed had my teacher not made a point of explaining the issue, but I
have heard reference to it since. I did think it was something that WS
made a *point* of doing in each play, but maybe I'm remembering with more
zeal than accuracy.

That's quite interesting. So not just the "lowlife" characters then, eh?

I've never read that one (or even the Cole's notes or NZ's equivalent
thereof). Is the whole thing non Iambic, or just some of the characters?
Or just some of the scenes? (yes, I could look this up myself)

Oh sod it... I *did* look it up.

I found this:
http://www.sparknotes.com/shakespeare/henry4pt1/study.html (question 4, and
its answer).

Interesting stuff (that bit, and the site in general).

And yes! The porter I remember is from Macbeth. Well done.

And if you ever need a 'cheat sheet' on other works by SHAKESPEARE, Akira
KUROSAWA'S "Ran" is an intense Japanese treatment of "King Lear".
