It's finally happened...

It's taken a long time, a lot of thought, a lot of soul-searching and all
that good stuff..

And after 12 years...

I've got a *real* job.

Wheras I'll still be doing whatever acting I can get when it will allow, I
just can't hack it anymore.

Nov. 28th.
Inland Revenue, Working Tax Credit division...

Suggestion for your first morning.

Be nice and polite about it and say you hate to bring this up but that
the bonus situation has never been on an equitable basis.

Even better, be nice and polite about it, but ask fellow colleagues how
to sound convincing when lying through your teeth about how thousands
of pounds suddenly appear in a persons account and reasons why you (IR)
cant take it back.

And people who should receive money and dont get it at all - learn to
repeat verbatim "the computers were down for 3 days and we have a back
log - we will deal with it within 10 days"........ liar, liar, pants on
fire!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you ready, Cov?? :P

I might try the old Actor's adage....
"My word... I thought we'd have to work a LOT harder for (insert the amount
you know everyone is being paid but DOUBLED here)..."

Heh heh heh....

Honestly?
Nope.
Do you have poor social skills and poor dress sense? Are you bitterly
envious of people who earn more than you do? Do you regard anyone who
has lunch paid for by a business contact as a yuppie fat cat? Do you
long to drag everyone down to the same level?

If so, you will fit right in at the Inland Revenue.

Actually this job could revolutionise the way Mr. Lamb watches Alien.

Maybe there needs to be an additional commentary track on the next
version of the DVD: Inland Revenue Tax Inspector officious jobsworth's
perspective.

[Scene where they're sitting around drinking coffee] COVENANT: Is that
coffee provided free? If so it consititutes a taxable benefit in kind
under section 33 of the 1999 Employee Non Salary Benefits Act
subsection 32. There is a corresponding liability on Weyland Yutani to
pay NI contributions on the deemed value of said coffee.

[Scene where the alien emerges from Kane's chest] COVENANT: Is that
chestburster declaring Kane's chest as its principal private residence?
If so then a liability to capital gains tax arises under section 13
paragraph 19 of the Capital Gains on Private Dwellings Act 2001, save
for any taper relief applicable at the chestburster's marginal rate of
tax.
(etc)

and of course: RIPLEY: "...This is Warrant Officer Ripley, last
survivor of the Nostromo, signing off." COVENANT: Not quite I fear, my
initial interim assessment is that she has underpaid her liability by
$712 which is payable on demand upon arrival at the outer rim.

Dont take anything too seriously. It's only a job - with cash at the
end of it to do all those things you wanna do.

Good luck, sweetie xx

So how was your first week at work? Are you making lots of nice friends

Weeellll...

It wouldn't be TOO prudent to say that some of the people *in traning* with
me are WAY too young (whipersnappers!!!) to be doing what I can see being
quite s tressful job at times, dealing with ANYTHING life can throw at the
public...

beyond that?
It's okay!

Thanks for asking!

Takes me back to my first day at work.

I remember a horrible dream about...smothering?
