Discussion:
Zeta II Reticuli and the outer rim.

well I just want to bore you to death with this thing that has been
going on and on in my mind.

I have been looking at the reference again to "the outer rim" in
relation to the discovery that the Nostromo was short of Zeta II
Reticuli. My assumption for the last few years was that they had not
reached the outer rim being "The Outer" as mentioned in O'Bannon's map
accompanying the online version of the early draft of the Alien script
(which of course is not the same as the one on the Director's cut DVD)
which refers to a large circle around the solar system outside the
Earth Vicinity area, where the star systems have not been colonise,
and because of the dimensions of "The Outer" rim, I decided that they
were a long way off from Zeta Reticuli but not so far in terms of the
journey they had made already, and so the planetoid where the derelict
was found for me was not in the Zeta II Reticuli system.

Lambert says when she's looking at the screen to find out where the
Nostromo is: "Just short of Zeta II Reticuli. We haven't even reached
the outer rim yet."

Yesterday I was looking up further information to make speculations
and I came to this website (http://www.osnews.com/story.php/17283/
Vista-Today-Tomorrow-What-Never-Was/) and someone made a sarcastic
statement aimed at Microsoft "I'm trying to write a paper in bloated
Office 2007, not plot the orbital trajectory to the outer rim of Zeta
Reticuli."

It suddenly dawned on me that Lambert's comment might indeed simply
refer to the outer rim of the Zeta II Reticuli system, as we can have
references to the outer rim of the Solar System which is the area
where all the outer planets such as Jupiter and Saturn float around.
So the "outer rim" might refer to the outer bands of Z2R's gravity
field, and this might be important for interstellar space navigation.
And if this adds up thoroughly then there's almost no question about
the planetoid being in the Z2R star system

Just when you think we couldn;t discuss it any further !!!

Right enough! I too just assumed this *outer rim* was in relation to the
*outer rim* of some unknown expanse of humanity inhabitted space!

Wow!!!
