AvP:R

I got away from work early today, so decided to go to the cinema. The most
conveniently timed film was AvP:R, so I figured I might as well have a
look.

It was an OK action film, I suppose: there were lots of guns and explosions
and aliens and predators running around the place (OK, just one predator,
but you get the drift).

No plot to speak of. No character-building to speak of. There was no
connection made between any of the characters. The human-only scenes
served only to pad out the length of the movie, or to faciliate getting the
next set of hapless victims into the right place at the right time. Or
wrong time, I suppose (depends on whose POV we're speaking on behalf of).

Alien purists will be annoyed by a number of things which are different,
but... well... I found it difficult to care, really. More-so than AvP was
this a Predator film which had aliens in it, rather than an Alien film
which had predators in it.

4/10. So that makes it second to bottom on my list of all the related
films:

Alien, 10
Aliens, 8
Alien3, 7 (although I prefer it as an Alien film to Aliens)
Predator 2, 7
Predator, 5
AvP, 5
AvP:R, 4
A:R, 2

I suppose it was an OK way to kill two hours. I didn't find myself *hating
it*, like I did A:R.

So there you go.

I.e. just like any Predator movie...

Yeah, those scenes could have been lifted straight out of any Jason
movie. :P

COUPLE OF SMALL SPOILERS IN HERE.....

Yeah, those scenes could have been lifted straight out of any Jason

What *I* found myself doing all the way through the film was....

"That scene's been stolen from "Predator"
"That's out of A3"
"That's from Aliens!"
"He's called DALLAS FFS !!!"

Basically it was a lot of scenes from the other 5/6 movies all stitched
together!

(I mean, two of the main chracters were Ripley and Newt!)

;' )

So, did I like it?

Well, other than yet another dodgy addition to the lifecycle.
(This could have been a PERFECT oppochancity to re-introduce the original
one. It would have made sense been graphically gruesome and better than the
regurgitation idea! Although I am assuming the hybris was actually a hybrid
*queen* and instead of an ovipositor in its rear it was in it's tounge !???)

It was alright!
Yes, you cared about no-one.
Yes, it was obvious very early on what would end up happening to the
township.
Yes it was a bit hack and slash...

But it was still better than A3 or Arse.

Heh.. see above...

But is it "aliens in the predatoir universe" or vice versa...?
Well, to my mind the last line in the film makes it Aliens universe....
"But it's not for OUR world, is it Mz Yutani!?"

Artistic license! Obviously Predators vomit their children, so... :P

This one was definitely "Aliens in the predator universe", while AVP
was the other way around.

That's the *only* connection you have to the alien franchise in AVP2,
really. Well, not counting the inclusion of... aliens. But the entire
movie was more of a predator gadget masturbation. The only noteworthy
alien was the one with traits of a Predator, so...

AVP, bad as it was, still had the "lots of aliens and one queen" thing
from Aliens, where the alien species at least had a character. The
Predalien (which is the closest thing to a noteworthy alien character
we've got) in AVP2 had less screen time than any other character in
the entire movie.

That's not to say it's bad though. As I said, I didn't like the
Jason-like teen nudity tension, which is out of place for ALien
movies, and semi-out of place for Predator (thinking of the sex scene
in P2) and the strange "vomit alien babies into humans" thing that
never was explained in any way.

Okay guys, I forced myself to go see it and that scene alone had me
rocking in the aisle. I got some real strange looks cos I just
couldnt cope with the crudity of it - so bloody stooopid - jeez!

I kept thinking of Kathy Bates, playing Annie Wilkes in "Misery" -
when she's telling Caan about the time she went to see Rocketman at
the flicks. "This isn't what happened last week! Have you all got
amnesia? They just cheated us! This isn't fair! THE ALIEN'S JUST DONT
A COCK-A-DOODIE DO THAT!!"

Dirty birds!

Everyone of my friends who arent die-hard Alien fans loved AvP and
AvP2, btw!!
