First, anybody got Glen Ritchie's e-mail? No, don't expect you to send
it to me. :) But if anyone does, would you please fwd my e-mail to him?
(it's valid in the 'from' field of this post.) I haven't heard from him
in a while, and I recently had to format C: and lost all my old address
book stuff. TIA.

Hicks....where's the Goldstein interview?!!?!?!?! :)

Is the Sandman slumming over in alt.movies.matrix _our_ Sandman?

What old subjects can we re-thrash? (Certainly not much new, eh?)
Tail-rape? Which cut is _really_ the "Director's Cut"? AR:se - stinky
pile of poo or just a wet fart? How much Ridley Scott you got on your
dvd shelf? Would AR:se have been any worse if Ewe Boll had directed?
Aliens: do you prefer the Theatrical Release or the Extended version?
(I actually like the extended one, just to be able to see Newt go into
that long breathless scream. How'd she do that?) Is Bill Paxton
under-rated, either as actor or director? Who stole Michael Biehn's
career, anyway? Why aren't you hanging out over at Weirzbowski Hunters?
Who _really_ let the dogs out?

My answer for that would be yes. I just hope that they don't give him

Yikes, don't even make jokes like that- he does specialise in videogame
movies, so if there *is* an AVP2...

Urg, It'll take me ages to get to sleep tonight after that
nightmare-inducing idea...

Well... I can only speak for my own opinion, but whilst I might sometimes
thing Covenant's a bit silly, I don't think "fuck, what a dickhead", which
is generally what I think when I read anything you write, Sandman.

Covenant also quite regularly - such as the concept of "regularly" can
apply to this NG these days - has something relevant to add. Can't say the
same for you.

So my vote for "resident troll" goes to Sandman. Sorry Covenant, if you
wanted to be in the running for that race.

Cue: comment from Sandman saying I'd be a better candidate than he would
be. A candidate? Sure, I concede that. A better one? I don't think so.
YMMV.

Indeed. You should examine a *lot* of the threads in the past here, in

Tail-rape?
I'm not so sure I'd use the word "rape", but... yes, what you're suggesting
is what I considered to have happened. Or a variation on that "sexual
violation" theme.
Post by Robert
Which cut is _really_ the "Director's Cut"?
The one in the theatres in 1979. Scott said as much, the latter version
was done solely for the money, and I don't think the re-cutting added
anything. I think the cocoon scene is a good one, but it should have gone
in in its entirety. And the original (cut out) "alien transmission" was
better than the one in the film.
Post by Robert
AR:se - stinky pile of poo or just a wet fart?
I'd got serveral degrees beyond the former. But cannot think of a suitable
fecal-oriented allusion.
Post by Robert
How much Ridley Scott you got on your
dvd shelf?
Two different Alien releases
Gladiator
Black Hawk Down

The only other ones I'd consider buying would be The Duellists, and Blade
Runner *iif* they released the cinematic version.

Oh, and I guess maybe Hannibal.
Post by Robert
Would AR:se have been any worse if Ewe Boll had directed?
I know this chap only by reputation. But based on that, yes, it would be
worse. I actually LIKE some of JPJ's other work: Delicatessen and City
ofthe Lost Children. Didn't think much of Amelie. Haven't seen the others.
Post by Robert
Aliens: do you prefer the Theatrical Release or the Extended version?
Theatrical. Or if possible, the theatrical version with a COUPLE of the
extra scenes back in:
- Ripley on the park bench
- The pre-aliens colony

I don't think the sentry gun stuff works.
Post by Robert
Is Bill Paxton
under-rated, either as actor or director?
Rated about right. He's an OK actor, but not an Ed Harris type (who is
deeply underrated / underexposed, in my view), for example.

I thought his character was a bit one dimensional in Aliens, but that's the
fault of the writing, not his acting, I think.

Haven't seen any films he's directed.
Post by Robert
Who stole Michael Biehn's
career, anyway?
Indeed. That said, he certainly works a lot (looking @
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000299/), but not much high profile stuff, as
one might expect after Terminator and Aliens.
Post by Robert
Why aren't you hanging out over at Weirzbowski Hunters?
Why would I?
Post by Robert
Who _really_ let the dogs out?
Well that - my friend - would be telling.

Q for you:
In your original post, you mentioned all the films except Alien3. Discuss.

(oh, OK, you didn't mention AvP either, but like me, you probably forgot
about it)

Might not be as far off as we think:

http://comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=14724

"Blade Runner: Final Cut" will arrive in 2007 for a limited 25th anniversary
theatrical run, followed by a special edition DVD with the three previous
versions offered as alternate viewing: Besides the original theatrical
version and director's cut, the expanded international theatrical cut will
be included. The set will also contain additional bonus materials.

Interesting. Cheers for the heads-up.

From the website @ the above URL:
<blockquote>
When Scott ran overbudget, completion bond guarantors took control of it
and made substantial changes before its 1982 theatrical release, adding a
voiceover and happy ending.

The main thing I found the DC lacking, cf the cinematic release *was* the
voice over. I think it was a very important part of the film.

I also did not like the removal of the ambiguity of whether or not Deckard
was a replicant.

I'm interested in what this "final cut" will involve...

The only other ones I'd consider buying would be The Duellists, and Blade
Runner *iif* they released the cinematic version.

"Blade Runner: Final Cut" will arrive in 2007 for a limited 25th
anniversary theatrical run, followed by a special edition DVD with the
three previous versions offered as alternate viewing: Besides the original
theatrical version and director's cut, the expanded international
theatrical cut will be included. The set will also contain additional
bonus materials.
Well...

They HAVE been saying all this stuff for years.

It'll be good to see, but I won;t hold my breath till I have it!

He's been busy - give him a chance! :)

Would AR:se have been any worse if Ewe Boll had directed?
Is he related to a sheep?

AR(se) could be a good ol' gorefest sci-fi IF it wasnt associated with
Alien!

Aliens: do you prefer the Theatrical Release or the Extended version?
(I actually like the extended one, just to be able to see Newt go into
that long breathless scream. How'd she do that?)
Both - I am a fan after all!! And that scream? Same as Roger Waters, I
suppose - its exclusive to them!

Is Bill Paxton
