Not directly related to Alien, but still interesting:

http://jktarot.com/gigertalk

Some quotes to whet your appetite: ("jk" is the interviewer, "G" is
Giger. Duh.)

"jk: Do you not like to tell people what your paintings mean?
G: I don't know what they mean. To me it is sometimes like when
I've finished them they were done by someone else. And some things in
it I can say at that time I was doing the painting I was fascinated
about that or just during the work on the painting somebody came with
something and I just incorporated that into the painting, like a box or
a key or whatever."

"G: (...) It was funny-I'm not such a-maybe the paintings look
like I'm a-I'm not such a serious or tragic person. I like fun.
And often people don't see the joke."

(One bit of humor he references is for the card The Fool, the subject
is about to commit suicide using a shotgun....but he's wearing
shooter's hearing protection. I don't care who ya are, that's funny. :)
)

He also says the imagery does NOT appear in his dreams - this had me
confused earlier, because he's said to suffer from night terrors, which
isn't a dream state, not like any of us know, anyway. But a number of
references seem to think he's inspired by his dreams/nightmares. One
bit of confusion cleared up, for me, anyway.

He also mentions his military service, he used to be a shooter but now
is only a gun collector (I'd love to see that collection)...anyway,
stuff you may not have heard/read before. Enjoy!

I very much like the idea that some things in his paintings were just
mundane things that somebody showed him and he decided to incorporate
into the picture. I've read this interview but I never focused on that
bit before. Thanks

Yeah, but I picture it happening more like this....

Unsuspecting FedExInternational Guy:
"Dum-de-dum, hi-ho...hola! Anybody home?"

HRG:
"Ya, ya, here in da back! In da studio!"

UFG:
"Hello, hello, package from the states...what the..."

*sees latest Giger painting*

"AAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!"

*faints*

HRG: "What is this you drop? A clipboard? And a pen? Spectacles?
Hhhhmmm....."

:) :) :)

*sniff* You don't remember my brilliant "At Home With The Alien"
parody? I'm crushed. :)

The spectacles were an afterthought, actually - I've been looking at a
_lot_ of Giger's stuff on his page, and "The Tourist" is a lot like our
fave xenomorph, except he's wearing glasses/goggles/shades or
something. And he's ready for action at the beach with his Kung-Fu
Phallus, even. (No, really. :) )

Now that I know some of that stuff is _supposed_ to be funny....well, I
get all giggly sometimes.

Of course, this means if I ever visit the museum, and the man himself
is there, I'll wind up laughing at something and he'll say, "No,
no...that actually represents the death of all sentient life everywhere
throughout the universe. Nearly put me in the asylum, that one did. You
ass." Hehehehehe.

No wait! Turn it upside down! Get it?

OK, I'm off to bed. Too many silly 50's monster movies.

I will be honest, I have found alot of his works quite humourous and
then felt guilty thinking but that is a sick picture - what's so funny
about it! But I got a humour vibe, so I must have been on the right
track!!

lol, just teasin'. I'd like to hook up with somebody able to do
stop-motion animation and who had a huge collection of Alien action
figures. Also need somebody to make the tiny sets and props (like a
frilly pink apron for Mom Alien, hehehe.) Or, I suppose you could do it
all in a game-engine like HL2, but that'd be a lot of work modeling and
such. But the engine capabilities are just enormous. It has a thing
called Face Poser, it'll synchronize voice with mouth/lip movement -
imagine a singing Alien! Even better than the one in Spaceballs, I
mean. :) :) :)
