A Very Long Engagement

Loosely on-topic as it's directed by JPJ.

I recall someone - Covenant? - strongly recommending this ages ago, when it
came out. Never got around to seeing it until now, but watched it a
couple of nights ago and found it very good (if slightly longer than it
needed to be). Quite an interesting view on WWI, both because of the
French POV (foreign to me), and JPJ's take on that POV. Good story, good
acting, good scene composition. MOSTLY good pacing.

It restores my faith in JPJ after A:R and Amelie (yes, I really didn't like
it, although I think that's mostly Audrey Tautou's character in that film,
than the film itself).

I like the style of the film and the story was interesting. I just found
Audrey Tautou's character annoying to distraction. This was probably the
intent, but it ruined the film for me.

I did love this movie very much when it came out. I haven't watched it
again, but I have it on DVD that's sealed up and maybe I should take
another look at it. It is what I expected of Jeunet. I think that it
might be a movie that I prefer to see in the cinema rather than at
home.

Yeah, it seems to me to be the sort of thing better seen at a cinema rather
than at home (cue Sandman comment about how excellent and large his... TV
is).
